Developing an effective study plan is always challenging. It can be even more so when...
READ MORECity University of Seattle has campuses all over the world. We took a moment to touch base with some of our CityU Mexico students who joined us for the Summer in Seattle study abroad program. They were generous enough to give us some great feedback about their time in Seattle, as well as explain what it was like to be a part of one of our many international programs.
Below we compiled some answers from the students based on their experiences.
What are the biggest differences you noticed between Seattle and the town you live in now?
“For me, the biggest difference is the culture. I find it very inspiring how people are so used to walking in order to get to their job, school, house, etc. Another aspect is that the buildings are awesome! I love to walk and take the time to appreciate all that surrounds me. In my town, we don’t have the weather or the architecture in order to do these things. However, I love the food and my community.” – Karen Miranda, CETYS Mexicali
What were your reasons for participating in the Summer in Seattle program?
“I really wanted to experience what it would be like to study abroad and how the school system worked in the United States. I think this is very important to know if you want to one day come to the U.S. to get your master’s or even a Ph.D. Since I am interested in studying for my master’s in the U.S., this is a great experience for me.” – Alma Karina Muñoz Baltazar, CETYS Mexicali
What are your favorite things about Seattle?
“Possibly, the culture. The city is neatly maintained and people are quite polite everywhere throughout the city. Another of my favorite things is the architecture that makes up most of the city. It embodies the Zeitgeist of the 21st century, a contemporary metropolis that is not so far from nature (you can get to the forest in 40 minutes!).” – Victor Leinnad Aguilar, CETYS Mexicali
“The city is impressive and I am really amazed by Seattle. It is a big city with lots of things to do and see. At first, three weeks seemed like too much, but as time went by, time became so short. To me, learning about the culture is one of the most important things I can do when visiting other places. The people of Seattle are educated and treated us well.” – Andrea González, UANL
What’s your advice for anyone looking to join the CityU community?
“I believe that all those students interested in joining the double degree program should organize well, set priorities, do their best and be focused on what is really important. Here you find the true meaning of being a college student, and if the opportunity presents that a student can attend the Summer in Seattle program, GO FOR IT. Every minute of each day is worth it, and it is something that I will never forget.” – Arlyn Ali Codina, UANL
What are some of the benefits of the Summer in Seattle program?
“The courses taken in this program are very interesting, which will not only help me in my future job but also in daily life.” – Cristóbal Herrejón, UANL
What was your biggest surprise when you started the program?
“I started the program a few months ago, and I like it a lot! At first, I thought it would be a heavy workload given that I also take courses in my local studies, but I think the additional work is worth it. Though it is not mandatory to attend Summer in Seattle, I strongly recommend it! This program has been one of the best experiences of my life, and it is a different way to live the double degree experience.” – Ariana de Hoyos, UANL
What are some takeaways from your experience that you will use in the future?
“In my experience in Seattle, I learned a lot of things that have to do with culture and also personal achievements. I’ve learned things about myself that I didn’t know, and that helps me be closer to the person I want to be. Learning about culture helps me expand my way of seeing and perceiving things all around me.” – Karen Miranda, CETYS Mexicali
What are your plans once you return home?
“I plan on resting before returning to classes. After that, I plan on working on the new things I have learned here in Seattle.” – Nathalia Saracho, CETYS Tijuana
