City University of Seattle has proudly partnered with universities in Mexico since 2005 to provide unique educational opportunities for students. One such opportunity is the Summer in Seattle integrated study abroad program, and this July, CityU welcomed 76 participants through the program.

Summer in Seattle is open to students enrolled in CityU’s management, business administration, applied psychology, English Language Program and doctoral programs through the following institutions:

• Centro de Enseñanza Técnica y Superior (CETYS) Universidad with campuses in Mexicali, Tijuana and Ensenada
• Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) in Monterrey
• Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí (UASLP) in San Luis Potosí
• Universidad Popular Autónoma de Estado de Puebla (UPAEP) in Puebla
• Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) in Tamaulipas

The program lasts for three and a half weeks and gives students the opportunity to take three face-to-face courses in their degree programs, as well as tour premier companies in the Pacific Northwest.

In addition, students have the option to travel to Seattle this summer and to the university’s partner institution in Prague next summer, offering them a truly global education. This summer, more than 45 students from Mexico studied in Prague.

During the program, students stayed in the university’s residence hall in South Lake Union, and had the chance to participate in fun social events including attending a Seattle Sounders match and a Seattle Mariners game.

Asked about his experience in the program this summer, Daniel Rodriguez Carbajal, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration student with CETYS Mexicali, had this to say:

“It’s been amazing; I have had the opportunity to meet people from all over Mexico and share personal experiences with them that have made this trip unforgettable. Also, I have had the opportunity to travel and discover important points in Seattle… One thing that has made the experience different is discovering the city’s culture and how [people] are very kind and open minded, and how they accept and respect differences, which I believe should be done by more people around the world… The food, too, has been an important experience because back home we don’t get this many types of food, so discovering new dishes and flavors has made the trip original. Overall, my experience has been great.”
