RICHARD CARTER NAMED PRESIDENT OF CITY UNIVERSITY OF SEATTLE
SEATTLE, WA. – Richard Carter has been named President of City University of Seattle (CityU), Dr. Jerry C. Lee, Chancellor of the National University System, announced today. Mr. Carter is joining City University of Seattle from the National University System and his appointment as President is effective July 1, 2013.
“Mr. Carter has been an integral part of the growth and success of National University and the National University System over the years, and we expect a seamless transition as he leads City University of Seattle as it begins its affiliation with the System,” said Dr. Lee. “We are fortunate and excited to have someone with Mr. Carter’s experience and knowledge available to lead CityU during this important time.”
“I am honored to be named President of such a distinguished academic institution as City University of Seattle,” said Mr. Carter. “For more than 40 years, CityU has been committed to improving the lives of its unique student population. We will remain true to that vision as we continue to offer a quality academic experience that meets the needs of our students both in the Great Northwest and across the globe.”
Mr. Carter has served in a variety of capacities during his time with National University and the National University System. Most recently, he has served the dual role of Vice Chancellor, Business Operations for the National University System and Executive Vice President of Business and Regional Operations for National University. In that role, Mr. Carter led National’s Regional Operations in its efforts related to recruitment, enrollment, outreach, community relationships, articulation, and retention. He also provided leadership in Business Operations for the areas of finance, human resources, facilities, and financial aid.
Mr. Carter originally came to National University from San Diego-based Titan Corporation, where his assignment was the turnaround and sale of its Datron Advanced Technologies-Mobile Electronics Division. Previously he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Radiac, Inc. He also served as Vice President for Sales Marketing and Distribution, Executive Vice President, and then President and Chief Executive Officer for Signet Armorlite, Inc. He also served earlier with increasing levels of responsibility in sales and marketing at Richardson Vicks, Inc.
Mr. Carter earned a bachelor of science in International Marketing from the University of Arizona and a bachelor of arts from the American Graduate School of International Management.
City University of Seattle became an affiliate of the National University System in May 2013.
