This designation recognizes the Master of Science in Information Systems program at CityU as an academic program equipped to meet the rising demands of cybersecurity.
MAY 7, 2019 – Seattle, WA – The National Security Agency (NSA), in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), designated the Master of Science in Information Security program at City University of Seattle (CityU) as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE) program through 2024.
The NSA and DHS jointly sponsor the CAE-CDE program to reduce vulnerability in our national information infrastructure through promoting higher education and research in cyber defense and to produce professionals with cyber defense expertise. All regionally accredited two-year, four-year, and graduate level institutions in the United States are eligible to apply for this designation.
In 2018-2019, cybersecurity skills topped the list of Enterprise Strategy Group’s (ESG) annual global survey of IT professionals – 53 percent of survey responses reported a problematic shortage of cybersecurity skills at their organization. The cybersecurity skills gap will not be resolved anytime soon. Recent estimates predict as many as 3.5 million unfilled positions in the industry by 2021.
“City University of Seattle is committed to maintaining the highest quality cyber defense education to produce career-ready graduates,” said Scott Carnz, Ed.D., provost of City University of Seattle – which is currently ranked No. 28 in Best Online Graduate Computer Information Technology Programs by U.S. News & World Report. “This designation demonstrates our commitment to ensuring our curriculum continues to meet educational standards in an evolving industry.”
CAE-CDE designation assures that academic programs are equipped to meet the increasing demands of cybersecurity. Designation is based on colleges offering robust degree programs and close alignment to specific cyber-security-related knowledge units (KUs), validated by top subject matter experts in the field.
CityU officials, accepted their designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE) at the 2019 CAE Executive Leadership Forum, in Pensacola, Florida.
