New Zealand, Here I Come!
Have you ever wanted to study abroad or know what’s like to live in another country? Lisa Cabias, a 26-year-old graduate student in CityU’s Albright School of Education, soon will venture to Napier, New Zealand for her student teaching internship.
Follow Lisa’s blog updates (to include her surfing tales) that start on April 17. Her trip is possible through Educators Abroad — an organization that helps link professionals and students to teaching opportunities worldwide. More to come!
We’ll let Lisa tell you a little more about herself:
Greetings! My name is Lisa Cabias. I’m a 26-year-old Master In Teaching candidate in the two-year program offered by City University of Seattle. Throughout my educational career I’ve developed a fondness for the road less traveled. I spent my first year as a graduate student at Islandwood — a 255-acre environmental education facility on Bainbridge Island where I own my home. I enjoyed teaching school children about the natural world, often giving lessons in tree houses, on trails and even in the middle of a pond in the pouring rain!
I cannot wait to start the next chapter of my educational experience in Napier, New Zealand. Napier is located on the east coast of the north island in the Hawke’s Bay region. While I’m there, I will teach second grade at Onekawa Primary School. I plan to live in the home of the school’s self-described “office lady.” Rumor has it my temporary home is right on the beach. That means when I’m not teaching or doing research I will be merrily paddling my surfboard to catch the next wave! Follow my travels right here!
