Student guest speakers Jenna Waffensmith, who earned a Masters in Teaching degree, and Sophia Haccou, who earned an MBA, shared about their educational journeys with CityU.
Jenna began her speech with her experience from moving from Minnesota and moving to Seattle and her passion to become an educator, “While I am still working on a better work-life balance, I always come back to my purpose and my passion to build a better, safer, and healthier future for our children, for our families, and for our communities”. Followed by Sophia, who said “We have decided to choose CityU as a place to further our education; A place where we can be intellectually rigorous, identify our biases, our prejudices, our privileges. A place where we can be vulnerable safely in our academic endeavor, knowing that we will be supported by CityU faculties, staff, and fellow students”.
Hundreds of guests attended the ceremony in the new venue, T-Mobile Park, (while hundreds more viewed live online) and watched their family members and friends cross the finish line and receive their degrees.
