CityU offers new Graduate Certificate in Chemical Dependency Counseling

Graduate Certificate in Chemical Dependency Counseling

Substance abuse affects the lives of users, their loved ones and communities. According to the 2014 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, approximately 21.5 million people had a substance abuse disorder in the past year.

To help meet the increasing need for qualified mental health professionals, the Washington State Department of Health created a new pathway for practitioners to earn Chemical Dependency Professional Certification (CDP) certification with alternative training (WAC 246-811-077).

City University of Seattle recognizes the needs that exist in our community and would like to support practitioners who desire to serve individuals struggling with substance abuse. That is why we created a certificate program that fulfills the requirements of the new CDP certification pathway.

The CityU Graduate Certificate in Chemical Dependency Counseling is an innovative online certificate program that allows busy professionals to complete the required 15 college credits in a self-paced format. It was designed for master’s-level professionals who are motivated to better meet the complex needs of clients that have both substance use and mental health issues.

If you are already credentialed at the master’s level or higher, you may qualify to complete the alternative educational requirements for the chemical dependency professional certification. Approved master’s degrees include:
