CityU Enactus: National Champions!

CityU Enactus: National Champions!

City University of Seattle is excited to announce that our Enactus team is a first-time champion! CityU’s Enactus team traveled to New York to compete in the National Finals for the Early-Stage Competition on April 22, 2022. This is the first year that Enactus United States has awarded a champion for the Early-Stage level. Early-Stage projects differ from the other category of World Cup Qualifying projects in that the team has not yet produced outcomes. CityU Enactus brought 11 students and their faculty advisor, Dr. Kathy Cox, to Long Island University for the competition. The team presented a compelling, passionate story on their Clean Up project that helps 12 people experiencing homelessness to start a graffiti abatement business. Four presenters and four additional members answered the 5 minutes of Q&A with the other three members with other important roles.

“We are so proud of the work that the Enactus team accomplished. Leading up to the competition, the team met with city officials, Uplift Northwest, and cleaning supply companies to develop a budget, business plan, and training opportunities. They worked around the clock to put their business plan into action, and I am so impressed with the work that they have done and all that they have accomplished,” said Dr. Kathy Cox. “Their work on this project not only gave them entrepreneurial skills and experience, but it will also have real-world implications as their business plans are put into practice through our partnership with Uplift Northwest.”

The CityU’s Enactus team that traveled to the competition in New York included: Thamiris Cortes De Aguiar, Enactus President, Anh (Annie) Nguyen, Valentina Cercado Leiva, Soumia Taghouti, Suong (Susan) Nguyen, Shanna Sims, Nhi (Jennie) Dang, Ky Luu, Yingyan (Fern) Fang, Harry Jinwala, and Jiaqi (Edward) Zhu. The Enactus team represented CityU well. Congratulations, CityU Enactus, for being the first-ever Early-Stage National Champion!

CityU Enactus aims to train and empower students to create sustainable strategies and become entrepreneurs and business professionals to have a positive impact on the world.
