READ MORECity University of Seattle is excited to announce that it will be hosting the NICE Local Stakeholders’ Event on Monday, April 3, 2023. The National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) hosts an annual conference for community members and thought leaders from education, government, industry, and non-profits to explore ways of developing a skilled cybersecurity workforce ready to meet the challenges of the future. City University of Seattle (CityU) will host this year’s preliminary event at their downtown Seattle campus.
“This is a great opportunity for CityU to provide the Washington cybersecurity workforce community a platform to come together and discuss urgent cybersecurity workforce issues facing our state,” said Morgan Zantua, Associate Professor and Center Director for City University of Seattle’s Center for Cybersecurity. “This Pre-Conference event on April 3rd will bring leaders together to formulate strategies to build a world-class cyber workforce here in Washington state and across the nation.”
The NICE Pre-Conference Local Stakeholders event is an exclusive preview of the June 5th – 7th annual conference, with this year’s theme, “Resetting Expectations: Creating Accessible Cybersecurity Career Pathways.” The special preview event will include a panel discussion to examine the impact of future technologies on the cybersecurity workforce.
“We are thrilled to hold our annual NICE Conference in the Seattle, Washington region where so many innovative and dynamic cybersecurity employers and education leaders are based,” said Rodney Petersen, Director of the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) hosted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. “We anticipate significant interest from industry representatives seeking to forge new relationships with the academic community, training providers, non-profit organizations, and other partners as they build robust career pathways into cybersecurity.”
After the panel shares insights in-person and via a streaming platform from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm PST, a reception and networking event will be held from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm PST. The reception will feature light refreshments and a no host bar. The event is also supported by University of Washington Bothell and Whatcom Community College.

The National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE), led by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the U.S. Department of Commerce, is a partnership between government, academia, and the private sector focused on cybersecurity education, training, and workforce development. Located in the Information Technology Laboratory at NIST, the NICE Program Office operates under the Applied Cybersecurity Division, positioning the program to support the country’s ability to address current and future cybersecurity challenges through standards and best practices.
