CACREP Awards Accreditation to CityU’s Innovative Master of Arts in Counseling Program

The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs preferred logo(CACREP), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) has notified City University of Seattle that its Master of Arts in Counseling program has earned its esteemed accreditation through 2024. Being awarded CACREP’s comprehensive eight year accreditation – for both tracks – is a testament to the quality of this MAC program and its faculty.

CityU’s celebrated Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC) prepares students to work as counselors in the community mental health field. Students may select one of  two emphases areas, including Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) or Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling (MCFC). Both include core knowledge courses such as research, theory, human development and ethics; and most  coursework focuses on hands-on clinical work, which prepares students for a counseling career. Courses cover a broad range of issues, including: counseling techniques and assessments; trauma and violence; addiction counseling; psychopathology and psychopharmacology; group counseling and couples therapy; and a practicum and internship with direct supervised client work.
