Student Profile: Vanessa Vu, MBA

Student Profile: Vanessa Vu, MBA

As a student in City University of Seattle’s School of Management, Vanessa Vu is hard at work earning her MBA with emphases in Global Marketing and Technology Management. She’s also interning in the marketing department at Boeing Employee Credit Union. She has a full plate, to say the least! Vanessa took some time out of her busy schedule to tell us a little bit more about herself, and her plans for the future.

City University of Seattle (CU): Can you tell us a little bit more about yourself? What did you do before enrolling at CityU?

MBA, school of management, business, page, highlighter, textVanessa Vu (VV): Before attending CityU, I earned my bachelor’s degree in marketing from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. I worked as a marketing specialist for an IT company in Seattle for a year before I decided to head back to school at CityU to pursue my master’s degree in IT management. I’m also interning at BECU in their marketing department.

CU: Sounds like a busy schedule! What made you decide to enroll at CityU?

VV: The program sounded like a great learning environment with classmates from a variety of professional fields, and also offered a flexible schedule.

CU: The flexible schedules at CityU definitely cater to people with a busy life. What’s your experience been like so far in the School of Management?

VV: It has been a wonderful experience so far at CityU. Also, outside of the classroom, I enjoy the company of classmates who have been working in the marketing and IT fields for many years. They’ve given me different ways to look at my career path.

CU: Has there been something you’ve been very impressed with at CityU?

VV: The flexible schedules and deadlines. Most of my instructors are very understanding and are willing to give an extension when life simply gets too busy.

CU: What are you plans after you graduate?

VV: I’d like to be working as a product or project manager in the marketing and IT fields when I graduate.

CU: Do you have any advice for students considering enrolling in the School of Management?

VV: I would recommend that students expose themselves to a real-world experience through an internship, and also get involved in professional events, career fairs, groups and organizations outside of the classroom. Talk to people and learn from them. Work hard to build a network outside of school. You’ll be surprised how well these efforts will pay off in the long run.
