NSA, CNSS and Others Recognize & Award Technology Institute @ City University of Seattle’s Programs

This week, the Technology Institute @ City University of Seattle has been approved by the Committee on National Security Standards (CNSS), a collaboration between the NSA, the Department of Homeland Security, and other government agencies, to award students in the Master of Science in Information Security program certification in CNSSI 4012 – Senior Systems Managers

This security certification is required for all senior government managers who are in charge of, approve, or purchase information systems. Therefore, this gives CityU students an advantage in applying for government management positions in that they have already met the qualification they would otherwise have to obtain prior to working in such a position and can thereby be effective immediately upon hiring.

To celebrate this honor City University of Seattle’s Technology Institute Director, Dr. Erik Fretheim, will receive recognition and an official certificate in June during the 17th Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education (CISSE) in Mobile, Alabama.

In the approval letter that was sent to CityU it was stated, “Overall, the reviewer was impressed with the curriculum presented and would recommend this submission for approval. Congratulations are extended to the University for a job well done and for earning an addition CNSS designation.

The CNSSI 4012 certification is in addition to the NTISSI 4011 – Information Security Professional certification CityU was awarded approval for in 2012 for the Master of Science in Information Security and the BSCS – Information Security Emphasis.
