CityU building in summer

Message from the President – August 2017

It is summer in Seattle. Wow is it summer in Seattle! Record heat, following record rain! But City University of Seattle continues to be a cool place to be during our sunshine-filled months.

We welcomed more than 2,500 students for summer quarter, shortly after the Fourth of July, including more than 400 new CityU students. Dozens of teachers began studies through our Master of Education programs as part of their summer break, and more than 115 students started on a path to becoming teachers through our Alternative Routes to Teacher Certification program. In addition, we had more than 100 doctoral candidates complete residencies for the Doctor of Education in Leadership program.

Students participating in Summer in Seattle 2017

Summer in Seattle students and staff

Along with the flurry of activity from summer quarter classes, we had the privilege of welcoming 76 CityU students from Mexico through our annual Summer in Seattle study abroad program. This program gives students the chance to take three face-to-face courses in their degree programs and to tour premier companies in the Pacific Northwest, such as Boeing. Additionally, students who participated in our Seattle program this year have the opportunity to travel to our partner institution in Prague next summer, offering them a truly global education.

Although it’s August now and the sun is still shining brightly, we’re already planning for a terrific fall. Just like the seasons, each quarter brings a fresh start and a new opportunity for each of us to help more students get closer to their goal of graduating. Lending a hand today, doing a little bit extra now, can insure a student finishes with a walk across the graduation stage in June. Before you know it, the air will start to crisp and leaves with begin to fall. I look forward to working with you to find new ways to help our students succeed one class, one quarter, and one season at a time.
