International Conference on Leadership and Education
City University of Seattle is hosting its second annual conference on teaching and learning. The International Conference on Leadership and Education will be hosted at CityU’s Seattle Campus on Saturday, March 29th from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Doors will open at 8:00 a.m.
Many speakers will be presenting their work that addresses various perspectives on leadership and development both in industry and in higher education. The selected speakers represent many different countries providing a truly international flavor to the discussion of best practices in leadership development and implementation. Some examples of abstracts that have been submitted include:
- Leadership – New Adaptive Methods
- The “Dark Side” of Leadership
- ‘Feminist’ is Not a Dirty Word in Leadership
Additionally, Dr. Paula Cordeiro, the Dean of The School of Leadership and Education Sciences at the University of San Diego, will be the keynote speaker at this event and will review the elements of leadership that are universal and applicable to organizations in all sectors, including business, government, nonprofits, and education. Dr. Cordeiro will explore challenges to fostering change in organizations and discuss techniques that can be used by leaders in two different aspects of leadership challenges- adaptive and technical. Following this discussion of general leadership, she will describe her view that the cultural differences of educational institutions from those in other sectors, such as business, require unique leadership practices and techniques. Next the importance of ‘trust’ will be explored. Finally, Dr. Cordeiro will describe two models in which to view leadership in educational institutions: ethical and invitational – and explore leadership strategies unique to each model.
