Counseling Faculty and Program Recognized for Innovation

In October 2015, the Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC)  program and its faculty were recognized with several awards during the western region business meeting of the biannual conference of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision in Philadelphia, PA.

MAC was recognized for its innovation and received the 2015 Innovative Counselor Education Program Award from the Western Association of Counselor Education and Supervision. This award honors an outstanding, innovative, or unique counselor education program in the western region. Specifically, this program was recognized for its social justice-focused training program that experienced major revisions and changes to meet requirements for accreditation by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

Ellen CarruthDr. Ellen Carruth received the 2015 Special Recognition Award from the Western Association of Counselor Education and Supervision. This award honors individuals who have promoted and supported the counseling profession. Dr. Carruth was recognized for her service to the profession in addressing inequities related to the Mental Health Professional designation of new counseling graduates in Washington State, as part of her work with the Washington Mental Health Counselors Association.

Dr. Thom Field received the 2015 Professional Publication Award from the Western Association of Counselor ThomFEducation and Supervision. The award honors a significant publishing effort related to counseling, counselor education, and/or counselor supervision.  Dr. Field was recognized along with two other colleagues for his publication entitled, “The New ABCs: A Practitioner’s Guide to Neuroscience-Informed Cognitive-Behavior Therapy,” which was published in the Journal of Mental Health Counseling in 2015.

CityU is honored to have these faculty members in its midst and is thrilled to be recognized as a university who offers such an innovative program. We know that alumni of this program, like this Cal Ledbetter, would wholeheartedly agree with these awards and this recognition.
