City University of Seattle’s Enactus team competed in the Enactus Regional Competition on Friday, April 19th. The event was one of 11 Regional Competitions around the U.S. and our team was likely the only one who had members from 11 different countries. This diverse team of undergraduate and graduate students presented on various projects that they have been working on throughout this year. These projects include: Giving Hope, Giving Health, Giving Garden, Giving Culture, Giving Home and Giving Book. All of these projects aimed to help those in need throughout the Seattle community. As a result of their hard work and great presentation, these students were awarded with the Regional Champion Award and will compete at the National Competition in Kansas City on May 22, 2013.

CityU is thrilled to see these students succeed and looks forward to continuing its support of the Enactus organization, as Enactus’ mission and values complement CityU’s. Enactus aims to encourage university students to take what they are learning in the classroom and apply it to real-life situations. A Sam Walton Fellow is assigned to mentor and lead this team. This year and last CityU School of Management faculty member, Kathy Cox, was this team’s Fellow. Along with her support, a handful of CityU staff and faculty also mentored this team along the way.

These dedicated members have touched the community in several ways. Here is how they have improved the community through their projects:

Companies that assisted these students include Lowes, Safeway, QFC and Albertsons.

Throughout the years many international and domestic students have received invaluable skills and training by participating in CityU Enactus. Aside from students learning and growing professional skills, students get to assist the community and individuals solve problems like hunger and homelessness. If you are a student at CityU you’re invited to get involved with Enactus and make the most of your CityU experience.
