Celebrating 40 Years of Innovative Learning
We’re celebrating CityU’s 40th Birthday!
CityU was established in 1973 as a nonprofit focused on offering an education to anyone with the desire to learn. As we grew and strengthened our programs we earned regional accreditation from the NWCCU in 1978, and by 1982 CityU awarded its 1000th degree.
We started going global in 1984, when we opened a location in Canada, and less than a decade later, in 1991, we opened a location in Slovakia and become the first private university in Slovakia. Soon after we started offering our MBA in China and are now offering a myriad of programs in 12 countries on four continents around the world.
Today, we’re back in Seattle where we started and have top nationally ranked online bachelor degree programs; over 80% of our graduates working in their degreed fields; over 90% of our students boasting that our education is improving their career skills; over 60 relevant degree programs available online and/or onsite; and are one of the top five producers of teachers and MBAs in Washington State. In addition to these successes and rankings, we are also a part of one of the largest nonprofit systems in the U.S. – National University System.
Our 40 years has established us as pioneers, innovators and trailblazers in higher education and we couldn’t be more proud to celebrate today. Because of our students, faculty, staff and alumni, we have a history to be proud of and a bright future ahead of us.
