Academic Partnership Creates New Opportunities for Students
Newly established partnership with one of Vietnam’s first private universities to offer access to sought after TESOL program with a pathway into the Master of Education program.
Earlier this year, City University of Seattle signed an international agreement aligned to meet CityU’s Mission: to offer high-quality programs to anyone with a desire to learn. This agreement allows students from Van Lang University (VLU based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to earn a TESOL Certificate and continue into CityU’s Master of Education (M.Ed.) program. This programmatic pathway is designed for students to earn a TESOL certificate in Vietnam and complete the M.Ed. program in Seattle.
VLU is one of the first private universities in Vietnam under the administration of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) of Vietnam and the latest institution CityU adds to its extensive portfolio of international partner institutions. In 2012, CityU signed its first educational partnership in Vietnam with the Banking Academy of Vietnam (BAV). Since then, CityU has continued to expand its partnerships with other Vietnamese institutions to make it possible for students to earn a global education.
“It is an honor to partner with VLU, the sixth institution in Vietnam to partner with CityU,” said President Randy C. Frisch. “Offering students the ability to study in their home country and abroad in Seattle provides many opportunities for students to be global learners.”
CityU and VLU collaborated in several partnership activities leading up to the signing of this new educational pathway. In 2018, Acting Director of Vietnam Programs, Denny Dang visited with VLU leadership to learn more about what program and degree offerings would serve its students. This visit resulted in the signing of an initial Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between CityU and VLU. In celebration of the emerging partnership, VLU leadership attended the 45th CityU Commencement in June 2019 and signed the formal partnership agreement between CityU and VLU.
Earlier this month, President Randy C. Frisch, visited VLU’s new campus in Ho Chi Minh City to continue CityU’s expansion of program offerings in Vietnam. This recent visit resulted in two new educational offerings: English Immersion Program and a Project Management Graduate Certificate. The anticipated launch date for these two new offerings is in 2020.
