Commencement Schedule
Place and Time
The 2008 commencement exercises will be held in the Seattle
Center Key Arena on Saturday, June 14th at 1:00 p.m. The ceremony will last approximately two hours. Tickets or invitations are not needed
for your guests, and there is no admission fee. The Key Arena is located on First Ave. N. between Thomas St. and Republic St. Driving directions.
The Key Arena will be open for students’ access at 11:00 a.m. As you enter the Key Arena, there will be signs directing you to Graduate and Undergraduate areas where there will be tables on which you will pick up your name card.
Please keep your name card with you and present it to the announcer as you walk across the stage. Presidential Honor’s recipients
should have a Yellow Name Card.
Following the conclusion of the ceremony, please join us in celebration at a complimentary reception to be held in Seattle Center Pavilion A and B. Photographers will be available for those interested.
Seating and Presentation
Prior to the ceremony, marshals will direct graduates to the processional area. Graduates must be lined up no later than
12:30 p.m. Graduates will be seated by school and by degree. Once seated, graduates will be presented to the President
as a group. After the President confers the degrees, all graduates will be asked to be seated. Graduates will then be asked to
stand, in order of degree, and will be directed to the stage by a marshal, followed by the remaining rows.
Once you are on the stage, hand your name card to the announcer and continue across the stage. A member of the Platform Party will
give you a diploma cover. (Diplomas are mailed to graduates after the degree audit is completed and fees are paid.) Return to your
seat immediately after crossing the stage. Please respect your fellow students by remaining seated until the ceremony is concluded
and the platform party has left the arena.
Cap and Gown
You should order your cap and gown through Jostens and have it prior to Commencement. Caps are worn during the ceremony.
Tassels are worn on the right side of the cap until your degree is conferred, then moved to the left side. More information.
Special Notes
Graduates and guests who have a disability or have difficulty walking will find disabled parking in the First Avenue
North garage-Lot 3, which is directly south of the Key Arena and directly across from the suite-holders/disabled patron
entrance and ramp to the main concourse; directly inside this entrance is an elevator. Disabled parking is also available
in the Second Avenue garage-Lot 6, which is on Mercer Street in front of the Bagley Wright Theatre: closest access to east
main doors via ramp. Limited wheelchair seating is available throughout the Key Arena.
Please be advised that The Key Arena does not provide food or beverage on this day.
To obey fire regulations and avoid confusion, only graduates and City University of Seattle staff will
be allowed on the floor before and during the ceremony.
