Academic ESL
The Academic ESL certificate program prepares non-native
speakers of English for all undergraduate and language assisted
graduate programs. It is designed to give students the linguistic tools
needed for success in a degree-bearing program. Academic reading and writing are stressed heavily. Lecture comprehension,
critical thinking, and verbal expression of ideas are also a
major component. Six levels of ESL are offered. Completion of level six
grants the Academic ESL certificate and satisfies the English
proficiency requirement for City University of Seattle undergraduate and
language assisted MBA (AMBA) programs.
Prerequisite: ESL 050, 051, 052, and 053 or equivalency by TOEFL or approved exam.
