Is this program for me?
City University of Seattle's Undergraduate Certificate in Gerontology program is designed for anyone
interested in the issues of aging. You will benefit from this program if you are: (a) A health care
provider, human service provider, case manager, or counselor needing an in-depth understanding of the unique
characteristics and challenges of working with older adults, ...
(b) an individual who requires the knowledge
and skills necessary to serve the needs of older adults in nursing homes, care facilities, social programs,
and residential care, (c) someone seeking to improve your knowledge of the aging process in order to
better understand and care for elderly family members, or (d) a student in the Bachelor of Arts in
Applied Psychology program who wishes to focus your study on this population.

What can I do with my certificate?
Upon completion of the program, you will have gained the skills and knowledge necessary to: understand the
biological, social, and psychological issues related to aging; assess the needs of elderly populations; and
work individually or collaboratively with other professionals to analyze and improve existing services/programs
available to elderly adults. You will be qualified to work in the human services field in a variety of care
and service settings such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities, etc. You may also choose to pursue
further studies in human services or gerontology.
