Program Details

City University of Seattle's Master in Teaching (M.I.T.) degree in Elementary Education provides you the foundational teaching skills and content area knowledge to become a K-8 teacher in Washington state. If you have a bachelor's degree in a non-teaching area, the M.I.T. is a good way to earn a master's degree and a teaching certificate at one time. The CityU of Seattle program offers you the following knowledge base so you can become a first rate elementary school teacher:
  • instructional strategies and classroom management
  • human development
  • assessment and evaluation
  • literacy and language development
  • math, science and social studies content areas
  • health, fitness and the arts

Performance-Based Education at CityU

If you are an un-certified educator with significant experience, the CityU performance-based M.I.T. program could be a good fit. It gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your content knowledge and pedagogy via individualized reports and portfolios so there's no need to sit through classes you've already mastered. You can finish your online master in teaching, along with any applicable onsite experience, in as little as 5 quarters. Get in touch with a CityU advisor to learn more.

Where CityU Can Take You

This program was designed to be as flexible as possible to accommodate learners with differing goals. Our M.I.T. graduates go on to rewarding careers as classroom teachers, lead teachers, reading specialists and overseas teachers. You can customize your master's in elementary education with one of the following emphasis areas depending on your needs: Learn more about our Albright School of Education M.I.T. options by visiting our main M.I.T. program information page.
