Is this program for me?
City University of Seattle’s Undergraduate Certificate in Child and Adolescent Services program is
designed for anyone interested in working with children, adolescents and their families with issues
related to mental health.
You will benefit from this program if you are: (a) a health care provider,
human services provider, case manager or counselor needing an in-depth understanding of the unique
characteristics and challenges of working with youth; (b) an individual who requires the knowledge
and skills necessary to serve the needs of children and adolescents in youth and family service
settings and family welfare agencies; (c) someone seeking to improve your knowledge of children
and teens in order to better understand and care for members in your family; or (d) a student
in the Bachelor of Arts in Applied Psychology program who wishes to focus your study on this population.

What can I do with my certificate?
Upon completion of the program, you will understand the biological, social and psychological issues
related to child and adolescent development. You will have learned the fundamentals of testing and
assessment and effective communication. You will have gained the knowledge, skills and practical
experience necessary to work with children and adolescents in a variety of youth and family
service settings. You may also choose to pursue further studies in human services, communications,
counseling, psychology or therapy.
