About the CETYS and CityU PartnershipIn 2005, the private, not-for-profit universities signed an agreement to offer CityU programs in Baja California, Mexico to serve CETYS students. Founded in 1961 by local business leaders, CETYS provides quality education alternatives for students in Baja California. The nationally recognized university contributes to the development of the border economy, operating campuses in Mexicali, Ensenada and Tijuana. Each year, about 6,000 students pursue CETYS credit-bearing and continuing education courses in business, engineering, law and behavioral sciences. In 2010, CETYS Rector Dr. Fernando Leon Garcia and CityU President Lee Gorsuch renewed the CityU/CETYS partnership agreement to continue to offer CityU programs in Baja California. CETYS maintains the approval of the Mexican Ministry of Education and Ministry of Education and Social Welfare of the State of Baja California. The Mexican Ministry of Education and Government of Baja California recognizes CETYS as one of a select number of private institutions of high quality and the only private institution of excellence in the state. CETYS is accredited by the Mexican Federation of Private Institutions (FIMPES) and is one of the few private institutions to hold a membership in the National Association of Institutions of Higher Education (ANUIES). The university also is a candidate for U.S. institutional accreditation with the Western Association of Colleges and Universities.
