Transfer
City University of Seattle grants academic credit and advanced standing toward its degrees for appropriate courses
satisfactorily completed at other recognized colleges and universities; for acceptable scores on standardized
examinations in college-level subjects; for completion of formal, non-collegiate, sponsored instructional programs
and military service schools, as evaluated by the American Council on Education (ACE) and other agencies; and by
means of the evaluation of prior experiential learning at a post-secondary level.
Students who began, but did not complete, academic careers at other post-secondary institutions are welcome to
continue their education at City University of Seattle. Course work completed at other recognized institutions
will be evaluated to determine its applicability to the selected degree and major objective.
Prior Learning Assessment
City University of Seattle recognizes that learning occurs in many different ways and under varied circumstances.
As a result, the university has designed its Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) Program to enable students to earn
undergraduate college credits for learning acquired through documented experiences. The main principle underlying the assessment of prior learning experience is the belief that the knowledge acquired by students is more important than where, or the manner in which they attained it. Through our PLA Program, City University of Seattle translates certain types of demonstrable adult learning experiences into college credits, the measurement units of higher education.
Associate degree candidates may earn up to 25 credits by means of a PLA portfolio. Baccalaureate degree candidates may earn up to 45 credits by means of a PLA portfolio. Students may be awarded college credit for a wide variety of courses in the PLA process, but some individual courses and/or programs are not eligible for the PLA process. Please contact a City University of Seattle advisor to discuss if the PLA program is applicable to your chosen program of study.
