As a Teaching Faculty member at City University of Seattle, you’ll have the opportunity to bring your accomplishments and expertise into the classroom, giving your students more than just a textbook education. You’ll share firsthand practical knowledge and experience students can apply in the real world.
To teach at CityU, you need to have an earned master’s degree from an accredited institution, as well as extensive experience in your field of expertise. Teaching experience is highly desired and candidates with a Doctorate, or those within three months of earning their Doctorate, are strongly encouraged to apply.
We are currently seeking Teaching Faculty with substantial experience in online teaching, particularly in accelerated formats. We provide a New Faculty Orientation, an experienced faculty mentor, and training in our online classroom software: Black Board. The Guidance and Counseling program is designed to empower future counselors with the knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to assist student development. The CityU classroom and field supervised experiences are aligned with state and national standards.
Guidance and Counseling Part-time Teaching Opportunities for Winter 2012 at the Tacoma, Everett and Bellevue sites:
EGC 503: Child-Adolescent Growth and Development
This first-year course requires students to describe developmental norms in children and adolescents within the context of historic and current theoretical models. Students will learn to apply theories to their school counseling practice in order to foster student success and resilience, and provide guidance to parents and teachers about developmental practices to strengthen student learning.
EBC 507: Career Counseling and Information Services
This course provides a framework of career development theory for the school counselor to utilize career awareness, self-assessments/inventories, goal setting and decision-making strategies to increase student's engagement in their education and to successfully complete their high school plan and beyond. Student outcomes include conducting a guidance unit on career exploration; knowledge of available national and local career and academic planning tools Navigation 101, Career Cruising, etc.) and the individual strategies to work with students on their personal academic and career plans.
EGC 509: Health Issues in Schools
This first-year course requires students to explore the current social, emotional and physical issues that can impact learning. Students will explore systemic interventions that can be utilized in K-12 settings that are both proactive and reactive practices. Topics will include attention deficit/hyperactivity, autism spectrum disorders, substance use/abuse, bullying and violence prevention, mental health disorders and peer problems as they impact learning.
EGC 510: Leadership for Change
This second-year course provides an opportunity for the students to understand the leadership and advocacy role of the school counselor and to engage in self-reflection and assessment to identify their skills, assets and challenges when on the job. Emphasis is placed on the ASCA model, select leadership and change theories, the school improvement process, the characteristics of highly effective schools and understanding school climates and cultures. Students will evaluate a school improvement plan and identify their leadership and advocacy role in addressing any opportunity/achievement gaps.
The ideal candidate for these courses would have relevant and current job experiences with the evolving role of the school counselor and the responsibilities and trends for school counselors in meeting the challenges in public education. Although the course syllabus is structured with intended student outcomes, the ideal candidate should have the skills and flexibility to design learning activities which will engage diverse adult learners with the course content.

In our School of Management, we need several teaching faculty members for upcoming courses in a variety of areas. Previous teaching experience is preferred, but not required.
Marketing Managers with at least five years management experience to teach graduate level courses in our MBA program. Ten years progressive experience in a Fortune 500 company preferred; international and Black Board experience a plus. Opportunities available are:
- Weekday, in-class courses in Bellevue.
- Evening in-class courses in Everett, Tacoma or Bellevue.
- Online courses.
- MBA program courses available include marketing, finance and law.
Finance and Accounting Managers with at least 5 years experience at management level to teach master's level accounting and finance courses. Must be available one day per week for morning class for 10 weeks in Puget Sound region. Requires technology competency and comfort teaching part of class in online environment.
Project Management professionals with a MS in Project Management and/or PMP certification. Are you are a qualified project management professional with a busy weekday work schedule? Certified Management Accountant (CMA) instructor with 5 - 10 years work experience in public, private or government financial accounting, preferably at the management level. A master's degree and current CMA certification are required and CPA certification and prior teaching experience are preferred. Classes include live classroom and virtual instruction; some classes will be presented via Live Meeting. Live Meeting instructors should be dynamic and should have teaching experience using virtual technology. Additional training will be provided. Instructors will need to be available evenings.
Sustainability course instructors with a strong online teaching background. A PhD or DBA is preferred.
Technology Instructors with a completed master's degree in an applicable field; a PhD is preferred. Current needs are:
- Programming instructors with advanced skills in C# and/or C++.
- Web development instructors with experience in web programming and high volume websites.
Compensation for teaching faculty is based on the level of course (graduate, undergraduate) and the number of course credits (1-5). Most City University of Seattle courses pay between $1,200. - $2,700. per course.
